The papers for correcting your record

Eleven fields can be corrected at EPFO. Each has a fixed list of acceptable documents, and how many you need turns on whether the change counts as minor or major.

Nothing on this page is a sample. Every line is taken from a real government order, and under each one sits the document, the clause inside it, and the date we read it. Open one and check us.

Two or three, and this is the thing to get right

At least 2 documents for a minor change, at least 3 for a major one. Take two where three were needed and you are turned away.

For Major Changes, at least three documents are required to be provided by the applicant

One fine distinction on a name

A spelling that changes but still sounds the same is a minor change and two documents. One that changes the sound is major and three. That is precisely why the Mirror tells you which kind of difference it found.

11Aadhaar

When it counts as major

Acceptable documents — choose from these 1 to choose from

One acceptable document, and the change is classed as major. That does not mean bringing three Aadhaars; it means this is the most closely checked correction of the eleven.
